NMDA antagonists like dextromethorphan and ketamine are shown to act as rapid-acting antidepressants, immuno-modulators, and pain medications. Their use is limited due to the risk of serotonin syndrome or recreational hallucinations in users who do not want such effects. Recreational effects appear about 2 hours after a dose of 300 mgs or more in most users.
