Jive Turkey: What really makes you sleepy at Thanksgiving Dinner. It's Valium in the food. Oxycontinworld News

Too much philosophy and politics in your feed?  We get it, people are murderous racists and assholes.  Let's talk about something else.

Here's what really makes you sleepy during thanksgiving:

For the sound byte generation (self-included):

1.  It's not tryptophan from Turkey.

  • Cheddar cheese actually has more tryptophan than turkeydoes, and you don't conk out ...

  • Tryptophan truth revealed: Don't blame the turkey

  • 2.  You ate too much.  And several mechanisms cause you to slow down.

  • a.  The extension of your stomach to make way for food presses on the vagus nerve and the surrounding baroreceptors which causes a decrease in blood pressure and increase in parasympathetic (relaxation) tone.

  •                   Vagus nerve - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    3.  Too many carbs raises your insulin and blood sugar and you are about a fourth of the way to a diabetic coma.  Enjoy.

    4.  Carb foods are full of benzodiazepine-like compounds like Valium.  This is one of the newer findings.

Increase of natural benzodiazepines in wheat and potato ...

Benzodiazepine-like molecules, as well as other ligands for the brain benzodiazepine receptors, are relatively common constituents of plants

    4.  So basically friends, after Thanksgiving dinner, you are probably high on carbs, alcohol, tryptophan,

and yes, Valium and other benzos that occur naturally in your wheat and potatoes.

So go all out and enjoy.  It's just for one day.  Freeze the leftovers or send them to me.

    Thanks for reading

Thought Fallacies :1 The Switcheroo of meanings of terms used in argument

Here, I publish thought fallacies in anticipation of putting together an interactive presentation with a list of thought fallacies.  The first thought fallacy is The Switcheroo in meaning of terms.

    Switcheroo for the soundbyte generation:

    1.  Make a claim, often to objectivity.

    2.  Redefine the variables of the claim in a way no one actually uses the terms.

    3.  Reassert the claims while importing the original meanings, hoping that people do not notice that you have redefined them in a way as to make your argument invalid.

    Example:

    1.  Being gay is objectively wrong.

    2.  What is objectively wrong is determined by our present studies of population genetics which suggests lower chances of survival of the population if there are lower rates of procreation due to homosexual activity.  If studies show overpopulation, then being gay may be right according to the science, so it is relative to the population being studied but the science makes the determination objective.

    3.  Therefore being gay is objectively wrong.

In the example, objectively is defined in a way that most people would consider relativity.  Objectivity usually means that something is wrong in all circumstances whatsoever.  The reasserted claim attempts to reclaim that sense of the word objective, blinding you to the fact that it has been redefined.

A good example is the argument in Sam Harris's book about objective morality, The Moral Landscape.

        • Image result for sam harris moral landscape
    1. The Moral Landscape
      Book by Sam Harris
    2. The Moral Landscape: How Science Can Determine Human Values is a book by Sam Harris. In it, he promotes a science of morality and argues that many thinkers have long confused the relationshi

Here's how he does the switcheroo.

    1.  Morality is objective.  (example, being gay is objectively wrong.  Harris does not make this claim; it's just an example.)

    2.  Morality is a scientific determination of "which values lead to human flourishing".

(Notice:  This is NOT what is often meant by morality.  Most religious moralists consider whatever is their interpretation of their holy book to be what is right.  Some consider extinction of humans to be best, not the flourishing of human life.  He is switched the meaning of morality to something that is often not what is meant by morality.  Morality also has as an integral part of it's meaning, the idea that it is not objective, it is uncertain, and therefore open to infinite arguments.)

Also, "a scientific determination" is NOT what is meant by 'objective'.  Most people mean by objective, not that which is determined by science, but what is the case in any possible circumstances, in any world, sometimes determined by god, or determined by the universe and a gazillion other arbitrary and biased methods of their choosing.

    3.  We can attempt to determine objectively, according to the methods of science, which values lead humans to more pleasant experiences.  (true enough)

    4.  Thus morality is objective. Here's the switcheroo.  He has redefined objectivity as 'scientific determination' but when he reasserts, he attempts to import the usual meaning: right or wrong under any situation, independent of science or any other method.  Objectively right.  Objectively wrong.

More on this if the situation dictates.  Done for now.  Grain of salt people.  And don't watch the Ferguson fiasco and get caught up in racial politics so the politicians can use you as a door mat.

    Later friends.

Got my plant-based diet delivered today for my diet experiement

It's full of delicious fruits and veggies for my plant-based diet experiment.  You can get yours from here http://www.greenbeandelivery.com/missouri/.  I love the small cucumbers.  Just dip em in some dressing and you can totally eat them all day with no ill health effects.  The vegan burgers suck.  I thought I remembered eating vegan burgers that were acceptable but these are surely not it so I don't know about meat substitutes.  I asked a vegan about it, his answer, look it up yourself.  Totally turned off to veganism, just a buncha self-righteous a-holes.  lol  But there are good reasons to eat a fruit and veggie diet, grains excluded.

Anyway, here are the ingredients for my experiment currently.  If you know how to make dishes with these, leave a comment please.  And as always, smile :)  Daryl, Technosavage

Addendum, How to block side effects 7/13/2014
NMDA antagonists like dextromethorphan and ketamine are shown to act as rapid-acting antidepressants, immuno-modulators, and pain medications. Their use is limited due to the risk of serotonin syndrome or recreational hallucinations in users who do not want such effects. Recreational effects appear about 2 hours after a dose of 300 mgs or more in most users.

If you have citations for all of your opinions on a subject, you shouldn't talk about it.

If you have citations for all of your opinions on a subject, you shouldn't talk about it.  Just give me the citations, I'll look them up myself.  If you have something to say from your own thoughts, I'll listen to that.

In academia for students in most classes, if you write a paper and say an original thought without citations, professors will give you a bad grade.  They don't just discourage original thinking, they prohibit it.  I have had to attribute original thoughts to anyone who has said something similar or even dissimilar if i can't find anyone.  It's an awful practice.  People begin to think that citations are proof and evidence, often they are not.  I was also surprised to find in college that many academics cannot discuss something new and interesting.  They don't know what your talking about because they haven't read about it and memorized it.  You can say, "I'm talking directly to you right now about new things, could you just discuss it with me."  Many are not able to do that.  The have no original thoughts and can't hold a conversation about something new.  They produce students who are the same way.

    Parable: Proceed Fractally to Success

Parable: You start off on the ground floor and want to get to the top. First learn to thrive on the ground floor, then climb to the second floor and learn to live there with success, and so on till you reach the top floor if you do reach it. If you fall back a few floors you will already know how to thrive there. If you try to climb from the ground floor to the top floor without learning to thrive on each, you mostly likely won't make it, and if you fall back you'll be destroyed due to not knowing how to survive on any floor.

My college education was a 12 year attempt to go from the ground floor to the top floor with cunning, but never stopping to learn to survive on any floor. It did not produce good results, even when I got the job I was supposed to have. And as I embarked on a journey of self-re-education I discovered I didn't know how to do much that is useful for someone in my station. Only time will tell if it was worth the tradeoff.

So start wherever you are and achieve what is success on each floor. If you fall to or start on the ground floor, learn to thrive there, then proceed. Example, if you are designing software, design a simple program that works and solves a problem, then build on that. Do not try to create a program that will fix all the world's problems without ever developing it's predecessors and allowing it to grow and evolve. You will never finish and will tank all of your money into it then fall to the ground floor where you may not know how to survive.

    Genius' and their coffee.

There's a way to tell if you are a genius, highly intelligent and highly creative.  The genius, without fail drinks coffee and frequently spills it.  If one spills it everyday, he is probably writing a book or doing some other creative endeavor that will take weeks or months but of which he has convinced himself will be done in two or three all-nighters.  If he is Michelangelo painting the sistine chapel, one is sure 3 all nighters will do the trick.  Michelangelo would not eat or sleep while painting.  There are drawbacks we creative folks are very familiar with.

    Utopia/Dystopia and Radicalism

Download the full paper from the University of West Georgia website below:
    Utopia/Dystopia and Radicalism
Utopia and dystopia are basic categories that a western mind uses to organize experience.  Most Christians in America have adopted or are aware of a religious concept of utopia, Heaven, and dystopia, Hell.  But what happens when one’s view of dystopia comes to resemble not a place far removed from the here and now in time and space, but rather the current situation?  I will argue through the case studies of John Brown’s radical abolition and several cases of radical environmentalism that radicalism occurs when utopia is articulately idealized against a dystopia that is seen as already present or is eminent.  Further, I will show that both radical abolitionism and radical environmentalism in American society stemmed from the same source, radical Protestantism in the form of Puritanism.
The radical abolitionist John Brown, minutes before his execution, handed this statement to a prison guard:
I John Brown am now quite certain that the crimes of this guilty, land: will never be purged away; but with Blood.  I had as I now think: vainly flattered myself that without verry much bloodshed: it might be done.  (Ruchames 167)
The making of a radical in John Brown can be said to have begun in Puritanism, sometimes located in the millenarian tradition, but always in a devout Calvinist tradition.  In The Black Hearts of Men, John Stauffer, speaking of Brown and fellow radicals, Frederick Douglas, Gerrit Smith, and James McCune, explains “They became The Radical Political Abolitionists and viewed their government as sacred and the appropriate means for pursuing their millennium.” (Stauffer 2)  Stauffer contends that the party was also influenced by utopian experiments at Brookefarm, Hopedale, and New Harmony and particularly, William Miller’s predictions of the end of the world (Stauffer 116).  Still more, these experiments were occurring during a time of an escalation of extreme opinions on slavery, a temperance movement beginning to bring righteous anger on a population where the average male consumed eight ounces of hard liquor a day, and a financial depression that found even Gerrit Smith, a wealthy landowner, in dire straits (Stauffer 116).  It was a time where it was not difficult to believe that something momentous would occur.
Even more privately, John Brown himself was extremely religious.  In Fire from the Midst of You: A Religious Life of John Brown, Louis A. DeCaro writes of Brown, “he was converted in youth and grew up in a theologically conservative, evangelical, and Calvinist home.”  Browns parents were opposed to slavery and John Brown himself, early in his education had intended to become a member of the clergy (DeCaro 4).  Brown would have been familiar with several Christian conceptions of utopia: The Garden of Eden, Heaven, and the thousand year reign of Christ.  The thousand year reign of Christ preceded by the ‘tribulation’ and Apocalypse was the flavor of the times when Brown’s radical actions came to a climax with the raid on Harpers Ferry in 1859 to capture a federal arsenal and arm slaves for a revolt (Stauffer 116).  Each of these conceptions of utopia is a common reference for the western mind.  They are also very important in an unlikely dialectic, that of contemporary radical environmentalists.
On the other side of the binary is dystopia.  In the Calvinist tradition, Hell is
